MIDTOWN PONCE SECURITY ALLIANCE - Midtown in a minute 11/04/08

1.This advisory affects primarily Midtowners living east of Monroe. We were advised that Home Depot will conduct an annual fire drill around 10:30pm this evening (Monday 11/04). Residents in the immediate vicinity will likely hear a loud siren lasting a maximum of five minutes. If you hear that siren this evening, there is no cause for concern.

2. Please bear in mind that it is getting dark earlier. Because many Midtowners are still out and about well into the evening walking the neighborhood, please leave front porch lights on to enhance overall lighting in the neighborhood.

3. Local media recently reported that pawn shops are doing a brisk business these days. Burglars like to take their loot to those kinds of places. With a weakened economy, neighborhood safety and security efforts will need increased priority. Please be a “nosy neighbor” (within reasonable limits of course).

4. Marquis Ellis, the subject of the burglar hunt last week, remains in jail. Kenneth Lam, Steven Green ( a problematic transvestite prostitute), and two of the three ”burglateers” also remain in jail. Court watch dates are forthcoming on all of these.

MPSA needs Volunteer!

More Progress along the BeltLine!

Since the groundbreaking for the Historic Fourth Ward Park on October 15, there has already been a flurry of activity along the northeast corridor of the BeltLine in preparation for the November 8 clean-up. Last week, TruGreen LandCare, lawn and landscape professionals, donated their time and expertise to prepare the area for volunteers by accomplishing some of the heavy lifting. On Saturday November 8, Atlanta BeltLine Inc., Keep Atlanta Beautiful, Ponce Park, City of Atlanta, Park Pride, Trees Atlanta, Atlanta Community ToolBank and PATH are orchestrating the northeast corridor BeltLine clean-up. This is necessary to achieve the clean-up's goal of taking a first step in creating a useable connection between Piedmont Park and Freedom Park. Volunteers will pick up litter and remove kudzu from trees along the 1.5 mile stretch. Scooter stolen from Visitor Parking

It has been reported to management that a scooter, parked in visitor parking on 7th St. side, was stolen. Please remember to never leave anything of value inside your vehicle. Even an empty box or bag can draw the attention of a thief.

Residents are reminded to be alert to any suspicious activity in the parking deck. Also, please report any broken glass or burglarized vehicles to the Allied Barton security officer or the management office. Thank you.
